Some of the illustrations have been neatly coloured-in with water-colours, name to the half-title page, in matching slip case. The Moomins (Swedish: Mumintroll) are the central characters in a series of books and a comic strip by Finnish illustrator Tove Jansson, originally published in Swedish by Schildts in Finland. Contains 192 printed pages of text with splendid monochrome illustrations throughout. The revised version was published in 1968 and contains a number of minor differences for instance, the Silk Monkey character is changed to a kitten. This first English translated edition, published in 1951, is a translation of the first version of Jansson's book, which she was later to revise.
